The purpose of this research is to investigate daily activity pattern of individuals. Activity pattern includes type and duration of activity. The choice of an activity and its duration in individuals can be related to the selection of other activities and the duration of their activities. Hence, the decisions made by the person in choosing the type of activity and its duration are of particular importance in the study of demand assessment with the activity-based approach. Accordingly, this study examines the choice of type of activity and the time spent on it with both independent and concurrent methods. There are a wide range of econometric models for studying these two choices separately. In this study, the multinomial logit model and the hazard model were used to determine the type of activity and duration of activity, respectively. Two separate MDCEV and MDCNEV models have been used to examine the type and duration of activity selection simultaneously. In the MDCEV model, only the type of activity and its duration are related to each other, but in the MDCNEV model, in addition to estimating the duration of the activities and considering the dependence of the type and duration of the activities, each of them is estimated. This action takes place by placing similar activities in a nest. For example, in this research, the duration of the first and second shopping was calculated separately.The sample of the data in this study is the type of results of a trip-based survey thatis extracted from the updated data of the comprehensive plan of Mashhad city. Using these data, the power of predicting these three approaches was used in determining the pattern of daily activity. On this basis, although the run time of the MDCNEV model is far more than the other two approaches, it has a better predictive power than the other two models. In addition to comparing the predictive power of approaches, variables that affect decision making and choice of type and duration of activity are identified for individuals with different characteristics to provide policy makers the knowledge of effective factors, solutions to improve service to different individuals for providing more efficient strategy in a transportation network.
