تغيير خصوصيات مكانيكي خاكها با تغيير در مواد تشكيل دهنده فازهاي مختلف آن از جمله دانه ها و ماده پر كننده فضاهاي خالي بين آنها يكي از مسائل نسبتا پيچيده ژئوتكنيكي است كه بررسي آن در مسائلي نظير آلودگي هاي فيزيكي يا شيميايي خاك و انتشار آن از اهميت ويژهاي برخوردار است. تاكنون تحقيقات نسبتا مفصلي بر روي آلودگي خاكهاي رسي و خاكهاي درشت دانه سيليكاتي با مواد نفتي انجام شده است. بخش عمده اي از سواحل شمالي خليج فارس و درياي عمان در جنوب كشور با خاكهاي كربناته پوشيده شده است. از سوي ديگر در بسياري از اين مناطق بدليل احداث و بهره برداري از تاسيسات نفتي، آلودگي خاك به مواد نفتي وجود دارد. با توجه به اينكه تا كنون تحقيقاتي در خصوص رفتار خاك كربناته آلوده به مواد نفتي انجام نشده است، در اين پژوهش تغييرات رفتار مقاومتي ماسه كربناته هرمز به عنوان نمونه اي از اين خاكها در اثر آلودگي به نفت خام و گازوئيل بررسي ميگردد. در همين راستا تعدادي آزمايش در دستگاه سه محوري تحت بارگذاري يكسويه تحكيم نشده –زهكشي نشده انجام شد. آزمايشها براي سه تنش همه جانبه مختلف با درصدهاي متفاوتي از نفت خام و گازوئيل تكرار شده است. نتايج آزمايش ها نشانگر كاهش مقاومت، زاويه اصطكاك و مدول الاستيسيته خاك كربناته هرمز آلوده شده به آلايندههاي نفتي و گازوئيلي مي باشد.
