City is the arena for interaction between people and building and city is a place for human activities. In recent years we are witnessing the growth of population more than before so the managing the city would be more difficult for urban managers in order to accommodation and employment the cities has sprawled and it has caused a disruption to the structure and form of the cities. On the other hand, according to the form of the cities and urban residents, private vehicles have been dominant device for daily transportation such a way that people prefer to use their own car in order to travel every distance. Hence, the spatial structure of cities is such that the amount of traffic and distance traveled is high and there for it causes the fuel consumption by automobiles. Due to the limited energy and also side effect of fuel consumption by cars like air pollution, emission of pollutions, environmental degradation, accident hazards, in this research has been tried to reduce those problems in case study ( Golsar, Mosalla square, Saqarisazan in Rasht, Iran) and propose solutions by analyzing the spatial structure of the city.
At first theoretical texts related to the spatial structure of the city, urban metabolism, regenerative design, and new urbanism have been investigated. Then, in order to the use of successful solutions, the experiences of the reducing the amount of traffic and new urbanism in the other countries have been mentioned. In this research, spatial structure of city has been analyzed by space syntax and the spaces that contain high volume of the car has been predicted. In the other words, the spaces that have high potential of traffic jam has been predicted. In the next step, a questionnaire has been prepared and 50 questionnaires have been filled by residents of case study the spaces with high volume of traffic have been identified. The results of questionnaires and space syntax are same and Motahary Blv, Azadegan Blv, Saqarisazan road, Golsar, Navab street, Deylaman Blv, Golbagh Namaz Blv, Emam Khomeini street, Beheshty Blv, Bayani street, Bahonar street, 15 Khordad street have high amount of traffic jam because of high integration, high visibility, high connectivity and low amount of depth, inappropriate distribution and scale of land uses and lack of public transportation. Some action plans and solutions by use of new urbanism approach in order to reduce the amount of traffic in case study.
