The solar energy usage in the agricultural sector has a key role in sustaining production, maintaining fossil fuel reserves and reducing environmental pollution. Therefore, in order to achieve sustainable development in industrialized countries, the expansion of the use of renewable energy systems in the agricultural sector has been considered, including the use of photovoltaic water pumps, greenhouse technology, dryers Solar and solar water heaters. Despite the potential of the iran in terms of solar radiation, as well as the urgent need of farmers to the sustainable energy system, the adoption of solar energy technologies by them does not take place.
This research focuses on the Unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model to discover the factors affecting the adoption of solar energy by farmers in Tehran province. After Qualitative research and conducting exploratory analysis, six variables have been identified that include performance expectancy, trust, awareness, economic easing , Self-efficacy, and attitudes, influencing on acceptance intention of solar energy by farmers in the province of Tehran. The questionnaire from qualitative research was first distributed among 162 farmers, and the data were analyzed in SmartPls3 software. After that, a questionnaire was distributed in a larger sample of 300 farmers from the province of Tehran, and its data was analyzed in the Amos software. To determine the sample size used in structural equation modeling software, we used Sample Power software.
The results showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between trust, expected performance, self-efficacy, economic facilitation, knowledge, and attitude to accept solar energy by farmers in Tehran province, as well as six identified variables, explained about 66.7% of acceptance intention’s variances. Three moderator variables identified as level of experience, level of education and access or lack of access to the electricity grid and showed that the level of experience is influenced on the relationship between self-efficacy and attitude, as well as on the relationship between the economic facility and acceptance intention. The variable of access to The electricity grid also influenced the relationship between performance expectancy and attitude. The level of education influences on the relationship between trust and self-efficacy, expectation and self-efficacy, as well as on the relationship between performance expectancy and the acceptance intention.
