Esterification is one of the most important reactions in organic chemistry, which is of great importance due to its role in the production of valuable organic compounds among chemists and it is very popular in the industry because of the ester products in the preparation of pharmaceutical compounds, preparation of solvents and its also used as a lubricant and as a food freshener. This reaction was carried out traditionally using homogeneous catalysts. These systems have problems with catalytic recovery, purification and product separation. according to this, in recent years several solutions have been proposed for the use of recyclable solid heterogeneous catalytic converters. Although heterogeneous catalysts reported have advantages such as the ability to recover and disintegrate compared to homogeneous catalysts, However, in most cases, they have low activity and low efficincy.
Therefore, the synthesis of heterogeneous catalysts with recyclability and very effective for this reaction seems to be important. In this project, the SBA-15 was synthesized and then modified with the sulfonic acid groups. The synthesized catalysts were initially identified by various techniques such as XRD, SEM, FT-IR and STA. and then used for the esterification reaction between carvacrol and acetic acid. Various parameters such as reaction temperature, reaction time, catalyst and headspace volume were optimized by Design Expret soft. Studies have shown that this nanocatalyser is well ability for sterification. In addition, the system under study has the advantages of easy product separation and lack of side product. The excellent performance of this catalyst is attributed to the amount of acidity as well as to the good surface area of the mesopore.
