Cancer is one of the chronic diseases and is one of the most important causes of death in children. After diagnosis of cancer, the patient experiences different negative emotions, such as anxiety, fear and disappointment. These negative emotions in children are more important because of their special sensitivity and little understanding of conditions, and improving their psychological state improves response to treatment. Effective environmental strategies to reduce the focus on pain and anxiety today are considered by psychologists and architects. In particular, this research focuses on the factors of positive distraction in children's therapeutic environments.
We used neuroscience method, and ” Pupil eye tracker dev” as a devise in this study.
Three visual factors of nature, television, children’s toys were selected among the factors for prioritizing, and they were placed in a simulated image of the hospital room. 20 female students and 20 male students aged from 8 to 12 years were selected by random sampling. After placing the device on each child's head, the image was displayed for 10 seconds. Subconscious environmental considerations on the image elements were recorded by eye tracker cameras, and were reviewed after the end of the experiment.
The points where the stops lasted more than tenth of a second were identified, and the location of the intersection with the image was marked with signs. After counting the recorded points, graphs of the frequency of fixation points for each of the basic elements and the factors of distraction in the image are plotted.
According to the hypothesis, distraction factors are more important than the basic elements. Also, in order to prioritize the factors of distraction in general, the children first pay attention to the internal elements of the room and then the external environment. The frequency of fixation points on television, as an inactive sample of distraction, and toy as an active distraction is almost equal (35% television, toys 34%), and nature, with the abundance of 31%, is ranked next. The nature factor has been recorded among the girls' group with the highest frequency of fixation points, while boys have shown more interest in toys and child elements.
