Fault location is one of the most important issues of self-healing in the distribution network.
In this thesis a method using improved electromagnetic time reversal theory has been proposed for fault location.
Due to the simplicity of the transmission network compared to the distribution, first, EMTR method has been investigated on the transmission network and then on the distribution network.
According to the simulation results, the proposed algorithm for fault location has excellent performance for all fault types and just in the single-phase fault, error estimation can be less than one kilometer.
In order to investigation of the proposed EMTR method accuracy, the effects of sampling frequency, short circuit level, fault inception angle, fault resistance, fault type and network modeling has been studied in EMTP software.
Also a fault classification method has been presented for faulty phase detection that according to the simulation results, this method has satisfactory performance.
