Cities proceed heavily with the advent of new structures as living organisms. Indeed, cities are the products of many phases of history. With its fresh framework, contemporary architeture will also be present in the process. The modern architecture will be a heritage for our future.
The degradation caused by the performance of both natural and disruptive human factors leads to the gradual suppression or modification of the function of certain structures in historical contexts. On the other side, the presence of vacant property in urban tissue, increases the need to design new houses in historical places. In order to match the surrounding tissue, these newly constructed buidings are needed to conform to the surrounding.
In fact, the creation of new architectural structures can increase the historical importance of buildings considerably. Old structures represent the language and the spirit of the past and the modern structures show us in the future. In this project, we attempt to investigate methods of developing and extending ancient buildings with an awareness of the contex properties and to find extensive instructions on designing new constructions to be incorporated in monuments. Not only it is a driving point for the whole tissue, but it also achieves sustainability objectives by inspiring the spirit of present into these structures.
In the current research, many internal and external examples from a contextualist point of view and the development in the area of monuments are collected and then the selected samples are examined in detail in order to achieve the project objectives. By examining the prototypes, ideas have been shaped that form the basis of the research goals i.e. contextualism in the modern structure. The study outcome was a structure built into the soil to honor the monument of the site, and only a small part of this contemporary structure apears in the area.
