Infertility has engulfed the modern world and has many social and economic consequences in society. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the physical and psychological needs of infertile people. Infertility treatments are complex and time-consuming, and in many cases the patient has to repeat medical procedures. It is important to note that the patient undergoes a lot of stress during treatment and one of the reasons is the lack of patient-centered therapy and the main reason that discourages infertile couples from continuing treatment. Therefore, reducing patients' stress should be of great importance.
Considering stress as an important factor in treatment outcomes, the infertility treatment environment is able to help reduce stress in patients and, according to studies, patients need to adapt to new conditions and to be patient-centered in order to reduce their stress in therapeutic settings. Given the infertility treatment and the need to adapt to new conditions, research in the past literature has shown that a patient-centered environment is the answer. Therefore, consideration should be given to the design of infertile patients. According to research done, effective indicators of adaptation to the physical environment and related to reducing stress in a patient-centered environment include: environmental control, environmental protection, physical privacy, the presence of nature, physical comfort and the presence of artistic elements. Then, considering that stress is the main reason for patients to withdraw from treatment, the relationship between stress reduction and the characteristics of a patient-centered design was investigated.
In this study, a questionnaire was prepared according to the desirable physical environment characteristics and the women in infertility center were asked to fill in the questionnaire. In addition to a set of general questions, the number of visits to infertility centers, the number of IVF treatments and the number of IUIs were asked. Then, in relation to indices of desirable physical environment, people's preference for each existence and the effect of each indices on stress reduction were questioned. The results through SPSS software and phi square test showed that there was a significant relationship between the frequency of patients 'referral and the effect of some factors on patients' stress reduction.
Significant relationship indicates that infertile patients while more refer to therapeutic environment and their stress increase in the treatment environment, the more need to have that specific physical attribute in order to reduce their stress would be. This result suggests that considering patient-center characteristics in the infertility treatment environment can reduce stress by increasing adaptability to the environment, encourage them to continue the treatment process, improve treatment outcomes and reduce medical costs.
