    ABSTRACT Intelligent well technology (IWT) (or intelligent well completion) is a relatively new technology that has been adopted by many operators in recent years to reduces of water cut and improve oil and gas recovery, that is employs zonal flow control managed by flow rate and pressure value. It is known that the movement of water in each layer is different due to different properties of the layers and the impact of gravity therefore the arrival of water to a production well unevenly and thus the increase in the value of water produce (water cut) and decrease in the economic value (NPV). In this work we will apply the technique of smart wells (split the well completion section into several parts (segments) each part contains a valve (ICV)), to regulate the movement of water in the reservoir through the appropriate selection of the value of flow in each segment in smart injection well and the value of pressure in each segment in smart production well, for this aim we will depend on the three ways 1- method of regulate of front (without attention to the economic value (NPV)), 2- the sequential optimization of the values ( flow and pressure ) based on the values of (NPV), in which change the values of flow & pressure and calculation (NPV) then choose the value of pressure and flow that give the highest value for (NPV)) then compare with state of the conventional well, 3-then calculate the flow & pressure values of each segment that give the highest value for (NPV) by use the genetic algorithm (optimization) then a comparison & analysis of the results. To evaluate these approaches, a 2D and a 3D reservoir models were used as case studies from reliable literature. The study showed a significant increase in the NPV. In 2D model, 9.89 %, 11.75 % and 11.78 additional recoveries were relative to a conventional well using the first, second and third optimization approaches, respectively. For 3D model, 5.87 %, 5.99% and 6.20 % were additional recoveries with reference to the conventional well It can be said that the intelligent wells technology (intelligent control systems) offers good choice to the regularity of the displacement front, and this regularity is one of the most important factors leading to the optimal management of oil and gas reservoirs Keywords: Intelligent (smart) well, intelligent well completion, water flooding, multi-layer reservoirs, ICV.
