In this research project, copper oxide-copper ferrite and their composites (CuO@CuFe2O4) were synthesized with different ratios (1@1, 1@2, 1@3 and 1@4) using the solvothermal method, which it can be used as a promising photocatalyst for degradation of methylene blue. The prepared compounds were characterized by applying X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) with SEM-mapping, vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In the following work, the photocatalytic activity of all the synthesized compounds in the photocatalytic degradation of aqueous methylene blue pollutant under visible light irradiation was compared. Various parameters were investigated for methylene blue degradation such as concentration (5, 10, 20 and 30 ppm), time (30, 60, 120, and 180 min) and pH (2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12). The results of methylene blue degradation using the corresponding UV-Vis spectrum show that the synthesized 1@4 ratio has the best methylene blue degradation efficiency in 180 minutes, with the methylene blue concentration of 10 ppm and pH=10.
