The search for new structural forms to accommodate large unobstructed areas has always been the main objective of architects and engineers. With the advent of new building techniques and construction materials, space structures frequently provide the right answer and satisfy the requirements for lightness, economy, and speedy construction. In the past few decades, the global proliferation of the space structures was mainly due to its great structural potential and visual beauty.
Double and triple layer grids are the two common types of space structures which engineers can utilize them for covering large spaces. Due to having too many steel elements in these structures, in case of lack of accuracy in design, it could result in a non-economical plan. Since triple-layer grids have more elements than double ones, it might discourage engineers from using them.
In this thesis, the function of the above mentioned grids are examined, and it is proved that not only the triple-layer grids meet all the structural requirements on certain conditions, but also this type of grid could be utilized economically.
