Due to the limited resources of fossil fuels, the negative impact of their combustion on the environment, many countries around the world are currently using renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy, biofuels, hydropower, Geothermal and ocean energy have turned to ensuring the security of energy development in their country. Biodiesel is a type of biofuel that is renewable, biodegradable, and has similar properties to fossil diesel fuel. The researchers reported that although the use of biodiesel in a diesel engine reduces engine power slightly, the emissions of harmful pollutants are significantly reduced. In fact, biodiesel has the potential to be used as an alternative fuel in diesel engines to alleviate the energy crisis and environmental crisis. Among biodiesel sources, algae has many advantages. Iran also has many sources of algae in different parts of the country.
In this study, microalgae Donalila tertiolecta was selected as the source of biodiesel production and then its cultivation process was optimized under three parameters of salinity, light intensity and air discharge to achieve the highest cell density. At a larger scale, the amount needed to produce biodiesel fuel was then addressed. After cultivation and separation from the culture medium and drying it as a powder, the oil was extracted from the powder and converted to biodiesel.
Finally, produced biodiesel fuel with 10% and 20% pure diesel fuel was added and in a vertical, four stroke, single cylinder diesel engine, natural respiration at 600, 900 and 1200 rpm and four different loads, Tested.
The results of this study show that the CO and HC emission values of B10 and B20 biodiesel are higher than that of pure diesel fuel but the maximum CO emission increase is 0.02% which is insignificant and the CO_2 and NO_X from biofuel 20B and 10B are reduced compared to pure diesel fuel. The highest reduction of CO_2 and 〖NO〗_X was observed at 21 and 10%, respectively. In most experiments with biodiesel fuel, brake specific fuel consumption increased slightly, and the output power of biodiesel 20B and 10B biodiesel was not significantly different from that of pure diesel fuel at partial loads, but for higher loads, the engine output power slightly decreased
