This research investigates the demand for high-speed rail transport in the Tehran-Hamedan route in Iran and its effects on different modes of transportation and passenger behavior along with this route. Tehran is the capital of Iran and has a population of over 8 million; Hamedan is 320 Km away from Tehran and one of the big cities near Tehran with about 555,000 population and a large number of commuters are traveling between this too cities. Currently, passengers can only use road transportation (Bus or Personal Car) and conventional train, and there isn’t air transportation between Tehran and Hamedan, so most travelers use road transport, which is the result of the low price of gasoline in Iran but recently the gasoline price was increased and Iranians Railway is planning to construct a High-Speed Railway along this route. Different modes discussed in this thesis are High-Speed Railway, Conventional Railway, and Road Transport (Bus and Personal Car). After reviewing the literature and identifying factors that influencing travel choices, we designed a stated preference questionnaire and started to ask travelers who were traveling on the route to complete it and collect more than 500 samples. Then, we used Statistics Methods to classify Passenger in terms of socioeconomic characteristics, purpose of trip and etc. After using statistics methods we use Multinomial Logit Models to present proposed models to identify the critical and important factors influencing travelers' mode choice, as well as the market share of each mode of transportation on the Tehran-Hamedan route and Utility Function for each mode of transport.
