Paying attention to the context in urban design can be effective in protecting and promoting existing values in a range and on the other hand it can eliminate existing weaknesses. The contextualist approach allows researcher to pay attention to the material and physical contexts in a design, coincide intangible fields such as cultural, social, historical and human fields. In addition to the contextualist approach, what is important in this research is to use infill approach in research and design. Infill approach is, in fact, design and implementation in abandoned and unused urban lands and barren lands that in addition to paying attention to environmental aspects, it considerably helps to create the suitable outlook and increase the security of the area and improves its social level. The use of two approaches in this research simultaneously leads to the appropriate use of barren and unused lands and their design is based on physical, social, cultural, human and environmental fields. According to surveys, Sabounian Street, located in Bagh-e-Azari neighborhood, Tehran district 16, has baren lands and heterogeneous uses with urban texture and space which is not compatible with some of the foreseen uses in the detailed design for this range that, as a result, social problems and difficulties arise in the area. It seems that by organizing this area with the two aforesaid approaches, it is possible to create positive developments in the area of research and surrounding neighborhoods.
The present study has a descriptive-analytical nature in which field observations, library studies and a specific type of questionnaire help the researcher to collect data and information.
In the present research, by examining the criteria and indicators of the two contextual and infill approaches and summarizing them, the appropriate criteria and indicators for design in the range were obtained. Investigating the physical, social, cultural and historical structure of the research area, using barren and unused lands, creating desirable and suitable collective spaces, paying attention to the shape of roughness, topography and design appropriate to the slope, open spaces, semi-open, closed and intermediate spaces and intermediary, identity, works and elements related to the past, coherence and continuity and maintaining the spatial hierarchy and the behaviors and needs of space users and among the criteria that have been considered in this research and then each of the above criteria with indicators in its subset has examined the bounds of design and its immediate scope.
Finally, using the SWOT, perspective, goals, strategies, policies and actions for the neighborhood are presented and by using them, physical urban design for the desired area is designed and presented.
