In this study, two heterometal-organic frameworks with the formula [La2Cu (Aip)4(H2O)6](La-HMOF) and [Ce2Cu(Aip)4(H2O)6](Ce-HMOF) were synthesized by hydrothermal method. These compounds were created by the reaction of 5-aminoisophthalic acid (Aip) and lanthanum and cerium nitrate hexa hydrated. The structure of (La-HMOF) and (Ce-HMOF) were characterized by FT-IR, CHN, DRS, MAP, EDX, FE-SEM, TGA and XRD. The results showed that both products are isostructure. Photoluminescence studies were performed on two compounds and showed that both had an emission band at 418 nm at excitation at 370 nm. In addition, the results of photoluminescence showed that (La-HMOF) and (Ce-HMOF)had sensing properties relative to iron (Ⅲ). The Stern-valmer graph shows a linear correlation coefficient between luminescence intensity and Fe3+ concentration in the 0-300μM and 0-500μM range for (La-HMOF) and (Ce-HMOF), respectively. The quenching mechanism was studied and related to the fluorescence resonance energy transfer due to efficient energy absorption by Fe3+.
