Urban spaces, especially squares and streets, are areas for people’s free presence and their spontaneous and unconditional communication; improving the quality of urban facades will improve the quality of these spaces and thereby enhance the citizen’s quality of life and their image of the city.
Today, by increasing the expansion of cities and uncontrolled construction, gradual changes are replaced with sudden, unexpected, and irreversible transformations, and the physical identity, which is gradually formed in citizens’ mindsets is facing an identity crisis. In addition, individualism, self-centeredness, and lack of coordinating rules in buildings architecture have caused anomalies, disproportionate, and inconsistencies in the city image and cityscape of the street, so the purpose of this study is to identify the principles and rules which can provide a context for the qualitative improvement for urban façade so that the building’s façade can play a role as a part of a harmonious whole in creating a desirable and attractive urban space.
Lalehzar street also as one of the oldest streets of Tehran's old fabric which hosts lots of architecturally valuable buildings , has lost it's attractive visual features and now is in a very adverse situation. A lot of buildings that have been added within the last years in this street are designed with no attention to the historical values and urban design principles, therefore need a revision too.
This research tries to achieve a set of “effective strategies” by extracting “environmental qualities” in the form of “place indicators” and the way of applying these qualities in “components and pillars” of the facade.
In this study, theoretical opinions obtained by experienced experts in this field on the one hand and its conflict with the objectives obtained from case studies examined, on the other hand, led to the formation of the main part of research entitled "Conceptual Model of Façade Design and Strategic Management of Urban Façade”.
Based on the obtained conceptual framework, it analyzes the context in accordance with the case study and evaluates its valuable and spatial stereotypes as desirable visual examples in order to provide new aspects of an urban design guide for “Lalehzaar Street” as a result of this research.
