Abstract
Packaging is defined as the cover or operation for the preparation of goods in the entire process of using the product, including transportation, distribution and delivery to the customer. It is considered as one of the most important factors influencing consumers' purchasing decision and can play a key role in selling and marketing the product, as a silent seller. Saffron is one of the strategic agricultural products that accounts for 95% of world production in the country. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the packaging of saffron plant in general, especially in the form of gifts and souvenirs to transfer the rich and original Iranian culture to other countries. On the other hand, the considerable volume of packaging and package consuming daily, is an important environmental issue that should receive attention. In this regard, the sustainable development approach can play an effective role. Sustainable development is a comprehensive approach that comprehensively improves the quality of life in order to achieve economic, social and environmental welfare of human beings. It is also a process that somehow Leeds to more production in life, welfare, justice, social stability and economic growth, through planning and organizing human`s life and environment and managing the use of environmental resources.
The method used in this research is based on data collection and user-centered design principles. According to this method, the basic concepts including the nature and main task of the packaging investigated. Subsequently the standards of standard organization and the characteristics of saffron plant were assessed and Principles of sustainable design and user-centered design were studied.
The results of this study are primarily a list of principles and requirements for saffron packaging and a checklist for the general principles of saffron packaging adopting a sustainable design approach. Moreover, the target group and user needs were identified and a functional sample of the design was made and evaluated by experts and users. These samples were reviewed and three new designs were designed and then they were re-evaluated by experts and users and modified. In the literature review section, the related books and articles were reviewed. In the field survey, the saffron industry was assessed using the method of observing users while using the product and interviewing the experts.
Data analysis and evaluations were conducted using Kansi engineering method and Kano model, and comprehensive information about the evaluation of packages was obtained. One of the most important achievements of this project is compiling a list of practical standards for saffron packaging, and designing packages based on the principles of sustainable design and appropriate for the purpose of exporting and transferring the rich Iranian culture to other countries in the form of gifts and souvenirs.
