Abstract
Necessity and importance: The policies and various environmental backgrounds affect all the aspects of the collective life of citizens in the public spaces, and the origin of the behavioral patterns in the place is the result of the policies and mentioned contexts. Therefore, it is necessary to address the origins of behavior emergence in the place.
Problem: According to the three areas of theoretical knowledge, case study and executive-scientific process in the urbanism system of the country, the research problem is explained. 1-In the theoretical perspectives and approaches, the origin of the citizens' behavioral patterns in relation to the needs and motivations, as well as the various qualities of the environmental aspects of the place, have not been addressed and are unknown. Also, there is no particular classification of the different behaviors, considering the range of the various activities, and their sensitivity has not been conducted based on the needs. 2-Valiasr Street of Tehran is investigated for the verification of the concepts to be used in the case study approach in the present study. This street is approximately 18 kilometers and extends from the northern regions to the southern part of Tehran. There are various sub-places and different situations along this street that provided the ground for the emergence of various normal and abnormal behaviors, and their importance, preference, foundation based on human needs are not known. 3-in the process of place making and group and interdisciplinary activities, the active grounds are not certain and known in the emergence of the behavioral patterns, and have no place in most of the plans and designs. Also, due to the lack of knowledge on their nature and consequences, they have not been considered. Therefore, the research questions are how to increase the synomorphy of behavior in the public space, how are the changes and sensitivity of the emerging behaviors appropriate to the changes in the priority of the needs, the influential factors on the vitality of the place and its relationship with the synomorphy of the behavior, and the place of environmental qualities and quantities in the normativity of the behavior and how is the behavior synomorphy thorough the Valiasr Street considering the ruling conditions.
Aim: The complexity of the subject of behavioral patterns in public spaces can be seen by its relationship with various fields of social and environmental sciences. In this regard, and the line with research questions, the main purpose of the dissertation explains types of behavioral patterns and their context in which they emerge. Moreover, through enhancing knowledge, it intends to provide requirements of fundamental-applied to status quo incorrect procedures.
Methodology: The research method is fundamental in terms of purpose. Its methodology is based on the mixed approach (qualitative-quantitative). To analyze the subject (investigate and multiple control of the data), the data processing and findings were conducted. In the first section, the street location and determining the sub-places were conducted. In the second section, the bases, foundations, and concepts of phenomenology were explained. In the third section, the phenomenology of various behaviors and the ruling conditions on them in the public space were studied. The fourth section analyzed the behavior sensitivity based on the changes in the need's importance. In the fifth section, interpreting the synomorphic behaviors in accordance with the responsivity of the qualities in the sub-places. The sixth section presents the conclusion of the hidden and stimulating transcendental and edge contexts. In the seventh section, the conclusion and enhancing knowledge have been conducted.
Findings and results: The public place is an area for the social interactions and meeting various needs of citizens. The emerging behavior is classified based on 11 different needs in three classes of behaviors with maximum synomorphy, middle synomorphy, and minimum synomorphy. In addition to the mentioned behaviors, 9 abnormal behaviors that their context and the need for them were not specified in the third, fourth, and fifth section, in the next sections of the research, the sense of citizenship, social belonging, sense of place, the manner of perception and conventional understanding, the mechanical conditions, and quantity of the constituent elements of the environment were explained as the influential factors on them. According to the changes of the importance of the needs in modeling the emerging behaviors, the position and sensitivity of the need for leisure and recreation, work, shopping, and necessary daily affairs and the need for security are equal. Also, the need for releasing the mental pressures is higher than the average of the sensitivity with a great difference, and provides the context for emerging the behaviors with the minimum and abnormal synomorphy, resulting in declining the public places and the disruption of its vital place in the urban life. After explaining the relationship between the vital place and the synomorphy of the behavior, the non-descending trend of the synomorphy process of the behavioral patterns in accordance with the changes in the physical, social, and economic conditions of the Valiasr Street from the north to the south, and the relevant analytical discussion, the thesis theory entitled the pendular behavior between the objective and invisible environmental contexts of the public space is presented. To outflow the challenges and issues related to the subject, the thesis scientific achievement and proposals have been explained and described in line with the audacity of the existing processes in the public place planning and design.
