In this research, first, the advantages of using the transmission system through HVDC are stated. Since converters are an important part of HVDC systems, an introduction to two-level and multi-level converters, their disadvantages, and modular multi-level converters are examined. . Modular multilevel converters have emerged as an emerging structure in high voltage applications and have paved the way for the use of power converters in high power applications over the past decade. Modular multi-level converters have significant advantages over two-level converters. Some of its advantages are modularity, voltage, and power adaptability, low dv / dt, less harmonic, use of cheap semiconductors with low voltage technology, output current output with smaller ripple, thus needing a smaller filter, High efficiency. The most important challenge of modular multilevel converters is the complexity of control, in which classical control and predictive control are discussed. In the last decade, model predictive control (MPC) has been widely proposed as an attractive solution for control. The advantages of model predictive control include dynamic fast response, non-linear system control, and system constraint, allowing the combination of several nested control loops in one loop.
