In recent years, in line with climate change, urban development projects have changed the natural nature of the water cycle, transforming the earth from a permeable and green surface to a collection of hard and impermeable surfaces that have interfered with the performance of this system. By reducing the permeability, the volume and speed of runoff caused by rainfall will increase and will cause negative ecological and physical effects in cities. In this project, the most important goal is to reduce environmental damage and improve the quality of the environment by applying a water-sensitive urban design approach in the study area (along the Babolsar River) and also tries to address the basic question that "design How can a water-sensitive city manage urban water resources in the field of study in order to improve environmental quality? "According to the library and documentary method, as well as by scoring a questionnaire with the Friedman test method, express a clear and practical answer.
According to the above in this dissertation, after reviewing the generalities of the research in the first chapter and the theoretical foundations in the second chapter in the third chapter, executive examples with a water-sensitive urban design approach inside and outside Iran at three levels: macro, intermediate , Micro has been studied and criteria have been extracted and formulated in the design section. After that, with the selection of Babolsar city in Mazandaran province, which is one of the rainy cities, which is facing problems due to the lack of proper management of water resources in line with the principles of sustainable urban design, the studies will be explained. In this regard, due to the centrality of the city, proper access to the city center and the heart and the important tourist area of Babolsar, the Babolsar river has attracted the main attention of water-sensitive urban design. The stage of recognizing the study area has been done by a researcher through a questionnaire to participate with residents and users of space and professionals and a survey and a participatory approach. During the studies, the study area had the most problems in terms of socialization and environment, which in the present project has tried to reduce these problems by using water-sensitive urban design techniques, to provide a dynamic and lively environment. Finally, based on the resulting criteria and guide to water-sensitive urban design, a comprehensive 3D plan along the Babolsar River is presented.
According to the studies, objectives and research framework, the present project is designed using water-sensitive urban design techniques in two sequences in order to improve the performance of the water system cycle. These two sequences have become the starting point of design as a starting point and expansion of water-sensitive urban design pattern in the area due to the existing potentials in the area, such as the definition of the node along the river route and the existence of active uses. Improving the performance and management of water systems also improves the environmental quality of the space.
