With the development of electronic devices and their widespread applications in various fields, the power supply of these devices has created a great challenge. Batteries have always been a source of energy for electronic devices, but in cases such as sensors that are implanted in the body and it is not possible to remove the sensor to replace the battery, we need another power source.
The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is a new type of energy generator that was first introduced in 2012 and as an energy collecting tool, it converts external mechanical energy into electrical energy by triboelectric effect and electrostatic induction.
In this study, with the help of three contact-separation TENG samples, we have investigated the effect of changing the characteristics of a TENG on the output and the requirements and limitations of determining the characteristics of a TENG have been stated. Finally, we present a structure with different layers from conventional TENGs to improve the TENG output performance through the effect of the dielectric permittivity on the induced voltage on the electrodes. In this structure, two dielectric layers are used on each side of TENG, which use materials with higher electronegativity as frictional dielectrics and materials with higher conductivity as back dielectrics. With this structure, we were able to improve the TENG output power of the sample under study by 13.3% and increase it from 18.7 mW to 21.2 mW.
