بررسي زبان انگليسي به منظور اهداف چاپي ميان پژوهشگران ايراني: به روش تركيبي

در طول دهه هاي گذشته، بدون شك زبان انگليسي خود را به عنوان زبان مشترك توليد دانش علمي تثبيت كرده است. در نتيجه، محققان از تمام نقاط جهان تحت فشار شديدي براي چاپ در مجلات بين‌المللي انگليسي زبان به‌ويژه نمايه سازي شده، قرار دارند اگر مي خواهند كه به جامعه رقابتي رشته علمي ملحق بشوند. پژوهش كنوني با هدف بررسي جنبه هاي مختلف چاپ به زبان انگليسي توسط محققان ايراني انجام شده است. هدف كلي بررسي نگرش ها، انگيزه ها، مشكلات پيش آمده و راهبردهاي آنها در انتشارات علمي بود. براي دستيابي به درك بهتر از عملكرد محققان، اين پژوهش از يك طرح تحقيقاتي تركيبي شامل مصاحبه هاي نيمه ساختاريافته به منظور ارائه ورودي براي ساخت يك ابزار تحقيق و متعاقبا يك پرسشنامه تكميلي تدوين شده به منظور ارزيابي تعميم پذيري يافته ها با جامعه آماري بزرگتر استفاده كرده است. شركت كنندگان در اين پژوهش، 337 محقق باتجربه (اساتيد دانشگاه) بودند كه در رأس محيظ هاي آموزشي و علمي قرار داشتند. يافته هاي پژوهش كنوني نشان داد كه محققان ايراني نسبت به نقش غالب زبان انگليسي در محيط علمي بين‌المللي نگرش‌هاي دوسويه اي دارند. تأثير سياست‌هاي ملي و نهادي كه ارزش بيشتري براي انتشار مقالات در مجلات انگليسي زبان قائل بودند، در انتخاب زبان محققان بسيار مشهود بود. علاوه بر اين، محققان با هر دو عامل زباني و غيرزباني به عنوان موانع اصلي در فرآيند انتشار مواجه بودند. در خصوص راهبردهاي غلبه بر موانع ذكر شده، محققان بر اهميت پايبندي به اصول نوشتار علمي و تعامل منطقي با سردبيران و داوران مجلات تأكيد داشتند. همچنين، آنها تاكيد زيادي بر همكاري بين المللي براي كاهش چالش هاي محققان آينده داشتند. اين پژوهش با برخي دلالت و پيشنهادات براي تحقيقات آتي به پايان رسيد.

Exploring English for Publication Purposes among Iranian Scholars: A Mixed-Methods Approach

Over the past decades, there is no doubt English has established itself as the lingua franca of scientific knowledge production. As a result, scholars from all corners of the world are under extreme pressure to publish in international English-medium journals specially indexed ones if they want to join the competitive academic disciplinary community. The present study aimed at exploring the various aspects of the English for publication practices of Iranian scholars. The overall goal was to investigate their attitudes, motivation, perceived difficulties, and strategies in scholarly publication. To gain a better understanding of their practices, this study employed a hybrid mixed-methods research design including semi-structured interviews to provide input for building an instrument and subsequently a follow-up questionnaire developed to assess the generalizability of findings to a larger sample size. The participants of the study were 337 established scholars (university professors) that were at the heart of educational and academic settings. The findings of the present study revealed that Iranian scholars have ambivalent attitudes toward the dominant role of English in the international scientific milieu. The impact of national and institutional policies that accorded higher value to publishing articles in English language outlets was highly evident in the language choice of scholars. Furthermore, scholars perceived both linguistic and non-linguistic factors as major obstacles in the publishing process. With regard to strategies to overcome these obstacles, they highlighted the importance of adhering to the conventions of academic writing and logical interaction with journal editors and reviewers. Also, they put a great emphasis on international collaboration to alleviate the challenges of future researchers. The study concluded with some implications and suggestions for future research.
