Textbooks have a significant impact on the language teaching and learning journey. Also, English language teaching in post-revolutionary Iran has always been seen as a social and cultural issue. The government and educators were concerned about the influence of the Western world and wanted to limit and control the teaching of English to protect the country's values. They developed a localized version of English education that focused on teaching the language without Western cultural influences. This alternative approach aimed to resist and counteract the impact of neoliberal education and instead promote the country's national and religious heritage. This article examines how this localized English education can survive and compete with the imported Western education in Iran. This specifically focuses on eva‎luating five sets of local English language teaching (ELT) textbooks used in Iranian high schools from the time period after the Islamic revolution up until the present. Babaii’ textbook eva‎luation model, was utilized for this eva‎luation (Babaii, 2022). The findings indicate that the theme of resisting western influence is the most preva‎lent throughout the textbooks, while the theme of revolutionary values is the least represented.
