تأثيرات استفاده از تكنولوژي در خواندن متون انگليسي آكادميك بر درك مطلب و نگرش: مورد مطالعه Rewordify

هدف از اين مطالعه بررسي نگرش دانشجويان نسبت به خواندن متون انگليسي آكادميك با استفاده از تكنولوژي و همچنين بررسي تأثيرات استفاده از تكنولوژي در چنين كلاس¬هايي بر درك خواندن دانشجويان مهندسي و علوم انساني (160 نفر) در اين مطالعه بود. در انجام تحقيق، دو گروه، هر يك از رشته هاي مختلف شركت كردند و همه¬ي 160 شركت كننده در اين مطالعه همكاري كردند. از آنجا كه هدف اين پروژه بررسي اثربخشي استفاده از تكنولوژي بر يك مهارت ويژه¬ي زبان (يعني خواندن) بود، به طور خاص به تأثير استفاده از وب¬سايت Rewoedify.com بر نگرش شركت كنندگان و عملكرد آنها در آزمون¬هاي خواندن نيز پرداخته شد. اين مطالعه در دو دانشگاه واقع در تهران ، ايران (دانشگاه علم و صنعت ايران و دانشگاه شهيد بهشتي) انجام شده است. قسمت تجربي اين مطالعه در پاييز 1398 انجام شد. داده هاي اين تحقيق از دانشجويان مهندسي و علوم انساني طي يك دوره¬ي 6 هفته¬اي جمع آوري گرديد. در طي اين تحقيق از پرسشنامه¬ها، آزمون¬ها، متون و وب¬سايتي به عنوان ابزار استفاده شد تا ديدگاه پاسخ دهندگان نسبت به كلاس¬هاي خواندن متون انگليسي آكادميك با استفاده از تكنولوژي بررسي شود. بر اساس نتايج اين تحقيق، مي توان پي برد كه استفاده از تكنولوژي مي¬تواند موافقان و مخالفان خاص خود را داشته باشد چرا كه از مزاياي استفاده¬ي آن مي¬توان به يادگيري عميق، تقويت انگيزه، نگرش مثبت، درك بهتر، خودمختاري و از معايب آن به عدم دسترسي آسان به ابزارهاي تكنولوژي/ اينترنت، فقدان برخي از امكانات مورد نياز و در برخي موارد به فناوري هراسي اشاره داشت و تجزيه و تحليل داده¬ها، استفاده از Rewordify.com به عنوان يك ابزار خواندن آنلاين در كلاس حمايت مي¬كند. نتايج تأييد نمي¬كند كه يك دوره خواندن متون كاملا با استفاده از تكنولوژي بتواند بر يادگيري زبان (به ويژه مهارت خواندن) و نگرش دانشجويان نسبت به استفاده از تكنولوژي در كلاس¬هاي خواندن تأثير بگذارد. بنابراين، داده¬ها نشان¬دهنده¬ي اين است كه تكنولوژي را مي توان به عنوان مكمل و تقويت كننده در كلاس¬هاي سنتيِ خواندن در نظر گرفت و نه جايگزين آن.

The Effects of Technology-enhanced Academic Reading on Comprehension and Attitude: The Case of Rewordify

The objective of this study was to investigate the students’ attitude towards technology-enhanced academic reading classes and to determine the effects of using technology in such classes on reading comprehension of engineering and humanities students (n=160) in this study. Two groups, each consisting of different majors were formed to pave the way. All 160 participants partook in the study. Because the project was designed to explore the effectiveness of using technology in one special language skill, i.e., reading, it was specifically concerned with the impact of using Rewordify.com on the participants’ attitudes and their performance in reading tests, as well. This study was conducted at two universities (Iran University of Science and Technology and Shahid Beheshti University) located in Tehran, Iran. The empirical part of the study was conducted in Fall 2019. Data for this research were collected from engineering and humanities students by the researcher through a 6-week process. The convenience sampling was conducted in two universities. Questionnaires, tests, texts, and a website were used as materials during this research to examine what the respondents’ attitudes are to technology-enhanced academic reading classes. On the basis of the results of this research, it can be concluded that using technology can have its own pros and cons; i.e., some advantages such as deep learning, boosting motivation, positive attitude, better comprehension, autonomy and some disadvantages are lack of easy access to technology tools/Internet, lack of some required facilities, and technophobia in some cases and the data analyses provided some support for using Rewordify.com as an online reading tool in class. The results did not support the expectations that a technology-enhanced course and using technology (Rewordify.com in this study) can affect language learning (reading in specific) and students’ attitudes towards technology-enhanced reading classes; therefore, the findings of this study recommended that technology can be considered as an enhancement to traditional reading courses but not as a substitute for it.
