Railways, as one of the main pillars of transportation in every country, play an important role in the development of economic, social, environmental, and political issues and affect the reduction of costs. As you know, delays in loading freight trains are one of the major challenges in rail transportation, which can lead to reduced productivity and increased costs, and customers' inclination towards its competitor, the road sector, changes. The aim of this project is to conduct a comprehensive statistical analysis of the causes of delays, lack of, and reduced loading of freight trains of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Company, and in line with this, to examine the company's behavior according to the analysis and its consequences, and to provide suggested solutions. In countries such as the Emirates, the United States of America, Ireland, Switzerland, and ..., some published studies have been conducted to analyze the timetable of stations, the rail network, and in some of them to examine the impact of weather in different seasons on their operations and scheduling. These articles use methods that examine and analyze real data, and some even present predictive models as a solution. Factors affecting freight train delays include: wagon failure, technical problems and wagon repairs, problems issuing bills of lading, lack or shortage of cargo, equipment failure, slow unloading operations at the destination, and other issues. In the following, using Excel software, empirical data is analyzed and factors affecting delays, lack and reduction of loading are identified. This thesis examines data from the year 1403, from Farvardin to Bahman, and provides significant results on a region-by-region and route-by-route basis. The results of this research show that different causes prevail in each route. For example, on the Sangan-Mubarakeh route, the most important factor that caused the failure to fulfill the plan was 33% non-arrival of wagons and 36% equipment failure. On other routes, such as Soltaniyeh-Mubarakeh, the most important reason for the non-arrival of wagons was the owner of the cargo. Therefore, the results of this thesis can help improve loading processes, reduce delays, and increase the efficiency of the rail transportation system.
