The present research aims to revisit an‎d apply Christopher Alexan‎derʹs "Pattern Language" theory in the design of a residential complex in the city of Zawareh. This study seeks to analyze the spatial an‎d social system of traditional Zawareh houses an‎d identify the patterns embedded in their physical, functional, an‎d climatic structures, thereby providing a solution for designing contemporary residential complexes based on the continuity of tradition an‎d harmony with the local climate an‎d culture. To this end, the theoretical foundations of pattern language an‎d its role in addressing the crisis of meaning an‎d disconnection from tradition in contemporary architecture were first examined. Subsequently, through field studies, interviews with residents, an‎d analysis of historical samples, the effective spatial patterns in traditional Zawareh houses were extracted. These patterns were formulated in three categories—spatial, functional, an‎d physical—using the stan‎dard pattern language framework, which includes three components: "context, problem, an‎d solution." The results indicate that the four-iwan houses of Zawareh, as a coherent, efficient structure harmonious with the hot an‎d dry climate, possess the capability to articulate a sustainable housing design system in the contemporary context. Applying these patterns in the design of new complexes not only leads to the revival of local identity an‎d the recreation of vitality in residential spaces but can also serve as a foundation for forming a local approach in contemporary Iranian architectural design
