چكيده
this paper tries to explore the effect of task-based instruction on reading comprehension of the iranian students . Since the researcher didn’t have any conntrol over randomization of students and it was considered as one of the features of experimental method . This study is not a true experimental method . As farhady (1995) mentions this method is called intact group study . In this research there were experimental groups and control groups . The age range of the students in both groups was between 18-20 :the age range difference was so limited that we could neglect that difference concern . Although the number of participants was not large ,there were two groups in this study . One of these groupsrecived task-based course book called :New interchange 3 " by richards (1998 ) students in this group accomplished five introductory units of this book , that is to say 32 pages of the book . Participants in control group studied the old version of the pre-university english book which based on nunan (1998 ) was clearly a non-task -basef one two tests,task -based and non-task based , were given to both groups . The researcher expected that the students who recived task-based instructin perform well in both task -based and non -task -based tests but the results of the study showed that the students in task -based group were succesful in task -based test solely . But thy totally outperformed the other group in task -based test and not in non -task -based test
