Abstract: Induction motor drive has great importance because of its significantly industrial applications. Squirrel cage induction motors are generally controlled by varying voltage and frequency fed to the motor. Squirrel cage induction motors have less application in high power. So wound rotor induction motor is used instead of it. In induction motors, a part of air gap power that is not converted to mechanical power, is called slip power. In these motors speed is controlled by energy absorption from rotor and returning it to the network that it will improve the efficiency. In usual systems, AC-DC-AC converters are used for returning slip energy to the network but the existence of dc link causes increase of size and losses. In this thesis a structure for slip power recovery is presented that a new type of AC-AC converter that is called Matrix Converter is used instead of ACDC- AC converter. Matrix Converter is as a static frequency changer in a slip energy controller for induction motor speed. Matrix Converters are a new type of power electronic converters which can directly connect mphase of input to n-phase of output with different amplitude and frequency from input phases without use of dc link. Special advantages of this type of converter is the reason for the tremendous interest of many military, commercial and research centers in recent years, and it is trying in the way of getting these converters commercial and industrial by solving the most problems they have in this way. In this thesis, Simulation of Matrix Converter application in slip power recovery method in speed control of Wound Rotor Induction Motor is done in Matlab/Simulink program and the results are presented.
